Dear friends and supporters of Tearfund,
While our focus is naturally on reorganising our busy lives through these uncharted waters and caring for our nearest and dearest, here at Tearfund we are very conscious of those places in the world that are likely to be most impacted by Covid 19. Countries with populations experiencing chronic malnutrition, immuno-compromised with HIV and little or no access to medication and a health service. Refugees who have survived war, displacement or natural disasters and are now extremely vulnerable to the spread of the virus.
CNN reported on Wednesday that countries in Africa are taking preventive measures to keep the disease out and many are showing a strong level of preparedness to counter its spread. My hope and prayer is that their experience of dealing with Ebola will stand to them as more cases of Covid 19 are identified. To date 112 people have tested positive across the continent, but testing rates are a fraction of what we are doing here.
Added to this is the rising food insecurity in East Africa due to locusts attacks where a single swarm can wipe out food supply for approximately 2,500 people for one year. We will bring you updates from our partners on the ground as assessments are made on how the situation is unfolding.
Please continue to stand with us and pray for those who are facing the same Covid 19 challenges as we are but without the support and resources we have.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
Yours in Christ,
Communications Manager
